The Wool: The Wool
Why sheep? Annie was taught to knit and crochet at a young age but being admittedly not very good at it she started instead to spin yarn for her mother to knit. After acquiring a few antique spinning wheels and purchasing processed clean wool, she began learning how to process raw wool into a workable product. With arthritic hands her mother is no longer able to knit, not being a strong knitter herself led Annie to purchase a loom and learn how to weave. All that was left to do was acquire a source for raw wool which came in the form of three miniature Shetland sheep named Rainy, Flora and Fanny. The flock grew from there, moving away from the single-purpose fibre-producing miniature sheep to large dual-purpose breeds used for wool and meat. The Shetland Sheep remain fixtures in the flock as a source of beautiful wool and a symbol of where we began.
